University of Arkansas – Fort Smith issued the following announcement on May 7.
Cecily Kimble, the second of today’s #LionVoices seniors, is graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.
She plans to relocate to Conway, where she will teach for Conway Public Schools, before beginning a masters degree program in hopes of becoming an elementary school principal.
“Returning back to school as a non traditional student has been a rewarding experience at UAFS,” she said. “I given a first class education, and I was fully supported by the entire university. My instructors presented the content in a way that was engaging, and modeled exemplary teaching, and I can only hope to be as effective in my future teaching endeavors as they are.”
“UAFS also provided an inclusive environment that welcomed all types of students,” she added. As a single mother returning to school as an adult, she knew the journey would be hard, but at UAFS, she found help along the way. “The staff was always helpful and quick to respond to any requests, whether it was for resources or just information, and my time here has shown me that it is never too late to improve. I was given all the tools to be successful, and now the sky is really the limit.”
Tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m., Cecily and her fellow graduates in the College of Health, Education, and Human Sciences will cross the stage at Stubblefield.
Cecily will be waving to her 14-year-old son, Rashaun. “I want to be a model for him so that he sees what hard work and determination can get you,” she said. “It is so important that he sees that it is never too late to achieve your goals.”
