The City of Fort Smith Parks and Recreation Department is delighted to hold the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for John Bell Jr. Park on Wednesday, July 12 at 11:00 am. This event marks a significant milestone in the Department’s commitment to providing inclusive recreational spaces for all members of the community.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at John Bell Jr. Park, located at 1900 Riverfront Drive in Fort Smith. Residents, community leaders, members of the press, and those interested in seeing the new park are invited to join city representatives in celebrating this remarkable addition to the local parks system. Arvest Bank will grill hot dogs for lunch at the event for all attendees.

"While many residents are already enjoying this addition to our parks system, the Parks and Recreation Department is excited to officially share the opening of the inclusive playground at John Bell, Jr. Park,” said Sara Deuster, Interim Director of Parks and Recreation.

Designed to exceed the minimum requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), this playground ensures that individuals of all abilities can play, interact, and learn together.

“This is Fort Smith's first playground that goes beyond minimum ADA requirements and offers boundless opportunities for play to individuals of all abilities and backgrounds,” added Deuster

The ribbon-cutting ceremony at John Bell Jr. Park will celebrate the efforts of the City of Fort Smith and the community in creating a playground that fosters equality.
