Happy Friday Lions! Today’s #LionVoices feature is junior psychology major, Amaica Howard! She is a Southside High School Mavericks alumna from Fort Smith, Arkansas and is the current president of UAFS Gamma Phi Beta. After graduation, she plans to become a philanthropic event planner.
When asked why she chose to attend UAFS, Amaica said the the homey atmosphere of the campus, the proximity to her family, and the affordability of the institution were strong factors, but the chance to get involved has really set it apart. “Going to UAFS, I feel like I had more opportunities to get involved than at other colleges.”
“It’s really shown me how to be a leader and how to be an effective one who can make change.” She said what makes her most proud to be UAFS Lion, however, is the people. “Everyone is just so friendly, and they want to see you do your best. They want to see you succeed.”
Amaica is the 2023 Cub Camp Director! UAFS Cub Camp is a freshman orientation program run entirely by UAFS students. As director, she oversees hiring counselors and chairs, scheduling, and making sure every camper feels welcome. The bonds and friendships that are made at Cup Camp are lifelong and make the entire camp experienceworthwhile. “UAFS wouldn’t be UAFS without Cup Camp.”
