FORT SMITH REGIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: UAFS Hosts All Majors Career Fair

The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith’s Babb Center for Career Services hosted the Fall All-Majors Career Fair from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center.

“The response to our event has been outstanding – we are back to pre-pandemic numbers of employers attending, and we are thrilled to have them back on campus,” said Susan Krafft, executive director of career services at UAFS.

More than 60 employers and organizations attended, with many seeking to hire new employees immediately.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for students across colleges to meet with potential employers, learn about opportunities available in our region, and build their professional network. We hope that our students will take advantage of this face-to-face interaction where part-time, internship, full-time, and graduate school opportunities will be ripe for the picking.”

Current and former UAFS students filled the Reynolds Room seeking full-time, part-time, and internship opportunities with local corporations, as well as information on graduate school enrollment and scholarship opportunities.

“When we hear from employers who regularly hire UAFS students, the first thing they tell us is how well-prepared and adept our students and graduates are in the workplace, and the second is ‘when can we hire more.’” Krafft said with a laugh. “We can’t wait to make even more of those connections for our students and alums at Thursday’s event.”

Students were dressed for success – many having picked up suits from the UAFS Clothing Closet which provides free professional dress to students and alums, and resumes handy on paper and online at Lions CareerLink. Students may visit the Babb Center for Career Services throughout the year to refine their resumes and practice their elevator pitches to prepare for interviews and job fairs.

A host of sponsors made the event possible, including presenting sponsor, ArcBest; hospitality room sponsor, West Fraser; partner sponsor, Baptist Health; gold sponsors, Arvest Bank, Bachoco/OK Foods, Mansfield Juvenile Treatment Center, and Rheem; and silver sponsors, Arkansas Family Supports, ESS, Sykes, and USA Truck.
