Christ the King Church - Fort Smith issued the following announcement on Mar. 7.
The butterfly has become widely know as the symbol of hope for those that were able to survive the concentration camps of Nazi Germany.
In 1996, the staff of the Holocaust Museum Houston began the Butterfly Project as a way to bring awareness of the past to today’s children. They did this by asking children to draw butterflies the hope of collecting 1.5 million, one to represent every child that was lost.
Kids from all of the world have drawn their own butterflies along with words of hope and remembrance and sent them to the museum. These butterflies can be found on display there so that generations to come will always remember.
