Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Jan. 24.
Orr Elementary School has earned Level 1 Certification in Marzano High Reliability Schools™. Orr is the first school in the district to earn this certification.
Level 1 Certification means Orr Elementary School has established a culture that meets the “Safe, Supportive, and Collaborative Culture” criteria. This is the foundation for every level that follows. Day-to-day school operations are addressed and evaluated in Level 1.
“For the past three years, the Orr Elementary team has been working together to become a High Reliability Schools Level 1 Certified School. I am most proud of the impact we are having on students’ lives because of the transformational work we are doing through this process, including our Inclusive Practices PLC Project and Capturing Kids Hearts. It’s an exciting time for our school community, said Dr. Dawn Childress, Orr Elementary Principal.
“We are so proud of Orr Elementary leading the way toward Fort Smith becoming a High Reliability School District. All of our schools are working together to learn more about this process where collaboration is more proactive and focused on specific data to make an even larger impact on student success,” said Lori Griffin, FSPS Director of Elementary Education.
The High Reliability School (HRS) program was created by Marzano Resources to help transform schools into organizations that take proactive steps to ensure student success. Using a research-based five-level hierarchy, along with leading and lagging indicators, educators learn to assess, monitor, and confirm the effectiveness of their schools. To become a High Reliability School, schools must achieve all five levels of performance.
“As you move through the levels, it represents a complete transformation in how schools are run,” says CEO Robert J. Marzano. Schools must collect data and validate their performance to climb each level of the hierarchy. Certification is determined by Marzano Resources analysts in
cooperation with school data teams. Using the HRS framework and indicators, schools can drive sustained, positive, and significant impacts on student achievement by synthesizing multiple complex initiatives into one harmonious system.
