CENTRAL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH: Among people of color, Native Americans are tops in getting vaccinated against the coronavirus

Vacs

Central Presbyterian Church issued the following announcement on Sept. 3.

COVID-19 has ravaged the Navajo Nation, killing Native Americans at a faster rate than any other community in the country. According to a report published earlier this year, Native Americans have been disproportionately affected by the coronavirus pandemic — especially on reservations, where access to basic resources, including food and water, can be limited.

But by July 2021, according to a PBS report, nearly 46% of American Indians and Native Alaskans have received at least one dose and almost 40% have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. In recent weeks, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been tracking vaccination rates by race and ethnicity in people who have received at least one dose of vaccination.
