University of Arkansas - Fort Smith issued the following announcement on July 31.
The last Friday Feature for the month of July is Mackezie Cook, a junior nursing student from Siloam Springs, Arkansas, who also volunteers with To The Smalls (TOTS).
“I have always wanted to be part of the medical field because I love helping those around me. I was specifically led to nursing because I love how many different opportunities come with it,” Mackenzie said. She chose UAFS after hearing from a number of other people that the nursing program is truly great. “I was told how well it would prepare me for working in a hospital after graduation,” she said.
One thing that Mackenzie would tell her high school self is, “Don’t take everything so seriously, because the stuff you think is important won’t matter in six months.”
She was so proud to complete her first hour of college while she was a senior in high school through concurrent credit opportunities.
Mackenzie’s favorite campus event is the Howdy dance. “Going to the Howdy dance my freshman year with all of my friends was a lot of fun! Everyone was just happy and having a good time!”
We are so thankful to all the nurses and front-line workers in our community for continuing their hard work throughout this pandemic! Thank you for helping guide our state through this time of crisis so we can return to campus safely this fall.
