Rep. Steve Womack, who has represented Arkansas’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress since 2011, used his social media account this week to comment on ongoing political disputes over government funding and food assistance programs.
On October 7, Womack thanked the President for supporting nutrition aid for families, stating: “Thank you @POTUS for continuing critical food assistance for women, infants, and children—putting our most vulnerable Americans first. I hope Democrats will do the same, and soon.”
The following day, Womack criticized Democratic lawmakers in a post on October 8: “The hypocrisy of Democrats’ supposed altruism is evident as their shutdown continues to hurt patient care across the country…”
Later that same day, he added: “Six chances and Senate Democrats continue to block government funding while hardworking Americans pay the price.”
Womack’s comments come amid ongoing disputes in Congress over federal budget appropriations and efforts to avoid a government shutdown. The issue of food assistance for women, infants, and children has been central to recent debates about federal support programs.
Womack has served as Arkansas’s 3rd district representative since replacing John Boozman in 2011. Born in Russellville in 1957, Womack is 66 years old and currently resides in Rogers. He graduated from Arkansas Tech University in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree.
