Rep. Steve Womack, a U.S. Congressman representing Arkansas’s 3rd District since 2011, addressed the ongoing government shutdown and its local and national impacts in a series of posts on November 5 and 6, 2025.
On November 5, Womack noted the historic length of the current shutdown, writing: “Today marks the longest government shutdown in American history—36 days. For 36 days, federal workers have gone without a paycheck. For 36 days, Americans have faced uncertainty about the federal programs they depend on. And after 36 days, the consequences have compounded” (posted November 5, 2025).
Later that day, he highlighted specific hardships faced by his constituents in Arkansas’s Third District: “The Third District is feeling the devastating consequences of this government shutdown. – Air traffic controllers at XNA are working without pay. – Service members at Ebbing Air National Guard Base remain in paycheck limbo. – SNAP recipients are under immense stress about https://t.co/egWmFTpZtX” (posted November 5, 2025).
Continuing his remarks on November 6, Womack stated: “Upholding public safety shouldn’t be a political issue, it’s commonsense. The same goes for funding the government.” (posted November 6, 2025).
Steve Womack has represented Arkansas’s Third District since replacing John Boozman in Congress in 2011 and has lived most of his life in Arkansas. Born in Russellville in 1957 and currently residing in Rogers, he graduated from Arkansas Tech University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1979.
