House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) issued a statement following the death of Representative Doug LaMalfa (R-Calif.). LaMalfa served on the committee for eleven years, including during the 119th Congress.
Westerman said, “I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my good friend, Doug LaMalfa. We have lost a great friend and champion for rural America and the West. I’ve known and worked closely with Doug since I’ve been in Congress and was always grateful for his steady friendship, the love he had for our great nation and for his deep understanding of the issues that mattered most to the folks he represented in California. Doug was a dedicated member of the House Committee on Natural Resources and Chairman of the Western Caucus where his advocacy and leadership will be missed. On a personal note, Doug and I often attended Bible study together on Thursday mornings in D.C., and I’m comforted to know Doug had placed his faith in Christ and, by God’s grace, received salvation. My prayers for comfort are with Jill and the LaMalfa family.”
LaMalfa was recognized as an advocate for rural communities in California as well as throughout western states. He also held a leadership role as Chairman of the Western Caucus.
